
Rain then ice leads to 40 crashes in a morning . . .
DUMFRIES and Galloway Police dealt with a large number of road crashes from just before 7.00 am last Tuesday morning.
In excess of 40 crashes have been reported to police on a number of roads across the region.
Numerous crashes were reported from single vehicles leaving the road through to three and four car crashes.
A double-decker bus skidded on ice on the Tinwald Downs Road, Heathhall and another bus crashed into a sign near Hightae School.
Police say no-one was seriously injured as a result of the accidents.
A police spokesman said: "There were very few injuries and where there were they appear at this stage to be minor."
Earlier days of heavy rain, driven by high winds, caused extensive flooding damaging rural roads in parts of the region, particularly in the Lochmaben area."
